Follow your guide and listen to informative commentary about the history of the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal was built by the son of Mughal Emperor Jahangir known as Shah Jahan. He made Taj Mahal in the memory of his wife Mumtaz.
About Taj Mahal: It is one of the most splendid masterpieces of architecture in the world. It was Emperor Shah Jahan who ordered the building of Taj Mahal, in honor of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. One of the greatest monuments of India has been listed amongst the seven wonders of the world. This monument was built in the name of love and devotion. In the year 1983, it was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and was described as a “Universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”. The Taj Mahal is entirely made of white marble and its pure white walls are decorated with exquisite Pietra dura (stone inlay) work. It is said that different types of precious and semi-precious stones were used in the intricate inlay work done on Taj Mahal.
After roughly 1.30 hrs of in-depth commentary about the wonderful Taj Mahal, you can leave for Agra Fort. Agra Fort was built by the son of Mughal Emperor Humayun known as Akbar. It was built in 1565 and took 8years to construct.
About Agra Fort: Ever since Babur defeated and killed Ibrahim Lodhi at Panipat in 1526, Agra played an important center of the Mughal Empire. Akbar chooses this city on the bank of River Yamuna as his capital and proceeded to build a strong citadel for the purpose. Agra Fort is among the finest examples of the fusion architecture that has dominated the Mogul period. The assimilation of these different styles has given the buildings within the fort a distinctive look. To name a few, for example, the Jahangir Palace built by Akbar is the most magnificent blend of Persian and local style whereas Diwan-e-Aam mixes subtleness of Turkish exteriors with the complex pattern of Persian architecture. Other buildings within the premises of Agra Fort either have a mixed style or conform predominantly to the Islamic style. Some of the important buildings inside the Agra Fort include Jahangir Mahal, Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Khas Mahal, Anguri Bagh, Musamman Burj, Mina Masjid and Shish Mahal among others.
After Agra Fort, you stop to enjoy a delicious lunch in Agra’s multi-cuisine air-conditioned restaurant.
After enjoyed a delicious meal, you will be taken to Itmad Ud Daula also known as Baby Taj.
About Itmad Ud Daula: Itmad Ud Daula (Pillar of the State), originally known as Mirza Ghiyas Beg, was the father of Nur Jahan, wife of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Mirza Ghiyas Beg is also the grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of the Emperor Shah Jahan, The Mausoleum of Itmad Ud Daula was commissioned by his daughter Nur Jahan. This beautiful structure is located on the left bank of the Yamuna river, near the Yamuna Bridge railway station. This tomb was built between 1622 and 1628. The architectural importance of Itmad-Ud-Daula’s Tomb in the evolution of the Mughal style of architecture is immense, and given the extensive use of white marble and Pietradura inlay, it can be regarded as the precursor of the magnificent Taj Mahal. The walls are decorated with semi-precious stones including Cornelian, Jasper, Lapis Lazuli, Onyx, and Topaz. The walls have been illustrated with exquisitely carved floral patterns, images of cypress trees, wine bottles, and vases containing bouquets.
